The fourth annual Cartagena – Portman regatta, validated by the Copa de Espana de Cruceros RI, will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of June, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Portman Sailing Club. The regatta is also open to J/80 class vessels. The Cartagena – Portman regatta is destined to become a classic in the region’s sailing calendar. This year’s competitors will by vying for the fourth Murcurio Group trophy and the first Carburo de Plata trophy.
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Portman sailing club, there will be a raffle to win a copy of the Carburo de Plata trophy received by the winner. On Saturday 2nd June between 9 and 11am, next to the Yacht Port Cartagena registration office, hot chocolate will be served. That night, after the final round of the day The Mercury Group are hosting a barbeque (“Fiesta Barbacoa, Mar de Frades, Matusalem y Amstel”) at the Ascar’s dry dock with live music from “Carpe Diem”. On Sunday, once the final rounds of the day have finished, the participants will be able to refuel with some paella prior to the closing ceremony and award of trophies.
Finally, despite the current crisis, the number of participants in this regatta has been steadily growing since the first event was held, which only goes to prove that for sailors and regatta enthusiasts alike, the waters around Cartagena and Portman provide the ideal environment for the competition. As in previous years the Cartagena Yacht Port, offers its services and facilities, free of charge to the visiting cruisers and J/80s from all along the coast.
